“Caregivers are the silent heroes who turn compassion into action.” Constance is well-loved by her clients! She knows the language of patience, the rhythm of kindness, and the power of presence” – Maggie, Constance Manager
Tell us about you: I’m a mother of three: two boys and one girl. I’m the type of person
who takes things one day at a time, and I like to love people. Oh, and I talk a lot! I’ve
traveled the world, including to Italy, Portugal, and Mexico. In the United States, I spent
the most time visiting Miami, Florida. A few years ago, I visited a relative in South Bend,
and I decided I really liked it here. That’s when I moved to South Bend, and I’ve lived
here for the past two years. I’m still trying out the South Bend area, but it looks like a
good place.

What type of work do you do for Firefly? I’m a full-time caregiver. I have about five
clients I see each week, usually twice a week. I’m scheduled to work one weekend a
month, but sometimes I’ll pick up extra shifts if I want to. Most of my clients have been
in the South Bend and Mishawaka area, and sometimes I’ll see a client who lives in
Niles. When I see a client, I’ll do the cooking and cleaning, and sometimes a standby
assist shower. I make sure the client has eaten, help them exercise, and while I don’t
dispense medications, I’ll remind a client to take their medications.
Tell us about some of your clients: I enjoy being with all of my clients and taking care of
them. I do have two clients who are both named Gary. One of them is a pretty quiet
guy, but over time, he’s opened up and he likes me. The other Gary is more
conversational, and we talk a lot together. He likes to do things together with me, such
as folding clothes. Sometimes we fold clothes while watching a TV show. Whenever I
make him a meal, he’ll come up to me and say, “Do you need my help?”, and then we’ll
cook together. Ken is another client I see regularly. He’s also more on the quiet side, but
he loves it when I make his bed—that’s important to him.
To me, my clients aren’t just clients; they are more like my family. I give it my all when I
take care of them, and always make sure I give them my best. One of my clients is like a
father to me. He looks out for me as I look out for him. He always asks me when I’m
going to come back.

What is your favorite color? My favorite colors are tawny and pink. I’m still in love with
the color pink even though I’m a grown woman.
What is your favorite food? For food, I love steak—New York Strip with a little rice and
veggies—yum!

What is your favorite activity? When I’m not working, I like to watch TV or exercise. My
favorite TV series is Lucifer, and I’m currently watching season three. As for movies, I
just like to watch something interesting.
What is your favorite place? Home is always my favorite place to be!
